The 1980 AMC Pacer D/L marks the final production year of American Motors Corporation's famously quirky, "flying saucer" shaped compact car. Originally introduced as an upscale package, the D/L (DeLuxe) trim brought additional badging, chrome exterior trim, and unique wheels. By 1978, it had evolved to become the vehicle's standard base configuration.
- The "Wide Small Car" Concept: Designed to offer the short length of a compact car with the interior width and passenger room of a mid-size vehicle.
- Massive Glass Area: Features an expansive greenhouse canopy, with glass accounting for 37% of the total body area.
- Asymmetrical Doors: Engineered with a passenger-side door that is four inches longer than the driver's door to make rear-seat loading easier and safer from curbs.
- Body Styles: Sold primarily as a two-door hatchback or a four-door station wagon.
- Interior Appointments: Offered premium touches like woodgrain dash accents, reclining bucket seats, and optional factory air conditioning.
Part of the Duncan Imports collection since 2015, this car is now available for sale.
