Named after the Latin prefix meaning “to surpass”, the Toyota Supra is a grand tourer that was manufactured from 1978 to 2002. Originally named the Toyota Celica Supra, the first generation, as the name implies, was derived from the already popular Toyota Celica after requests were made for the manufacturer to produce a direct competitor to the Datsun 280Z.

Measuring in at just over 181 inches long, the Supra was over 5 inches longer than the Celica. The bulk of this difference was seen in the engine compartment, as the extra room was necessary to allow for the addition of an Inline 6-cylinder engine, rather than the I4 that was being utilized for the Celica. The larger engine was paired with the consumer’s choice of either a 5-speed manual transmission, or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

As generations passed, the Supra transformed according to the demands of sports car enthusiasts. By the fourth generation, Toyota aimed to place a greater emphasis on a more serious high-performance vehicle. With a shorter overall length, more horsepower, and a lower, more even distribution of total weight, the Toyota Supra became one of the most formidable performance cars that Toyota ever offered. However, despite all of the manufacturer’s efforts, sales still declined and Toyota ended the export of the Supra to the United States in 1999, with production ceasing altogether in 2002

    • The Supra is Toyota's Flagship for a Reason

I've had my '95 NA Supra for 22 years now and I still love it just as much now as I did 20 years ago. She's been my daily driver for the last two decades and has given me no major problems. Granted after 20 years and 200k miles daily of highway driving, mother nature and father time have not been kind to the rubber bushings and paint. However, mechanically it has been solid. Just like many of the other reviews stated, if you are in the market for one of these classic beauties you probably know how to turn a wrench and can rebuild/upgrade everything on it. If you have the opportunity to pick up a '93-98 MKIV in good condition, jump on it.

The JZA80 Supra is the greatest car ever made by any car manufacturer in the world. It's Twin Turbocharged 2JZ-GTE Engine was reliable to 300,000+ Miles and could put down more than a 1000 Horsepower with bolt on parts. It is simply one of the most genius engineering feats by humankind.

Although I do not have the Twin Turbo, I am a former Mulholland Drive racer in Southern California and the handling is what I live for... Look up the skip pad rating and compare with other production cars and you will know what a gem this car is despite being aspirated. Twin lower lateral links and angled trailing links pull the Supra at an astonishing 0.98g on the skip pad. I am the original owner and had the car for 15 years and I still look forward to driving it each day to work.
