The 1986 Toyota Supra Mark III (A70) represents one of the most critical turning points in Japanese sports car history. This was the exact year Toyota officially cut the cord between the Celica and the Supra. While the Celica switched to a front-wheel-drive layout, the Mark III Supra was engineered from the ground up as a pure, rear-wheel-drive grand touring powerhouse.
Because production delays pushed its official release to February 1986, enthusiasts and collectors universally refer to this specific inaugural Mark III model year as the 1986.5 Supra.
The 1986.5 model year was unique because it was entirely naturally aspirated---the legendary factory Turbo version wasn't introduced until the 1987 model year.
    - The Engine: It debuted the 3.0-liter DOHC 24-valve 7M-GE inline-six engine, a massive step up from the older 2.8-liter engines. It produced 200 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque for the US market.
    - Race-Inspired Suspension: The Mark III introduced a sophisticated four-wheel double-wishbone suspension layout, giving it excellent high-speed stability and handling.
    - TEMS (Toyota Electronic Modulated Suspension): This was standard or optional depending on the package, allowing drivers to electronically adjust the shock absorbers between "Normal" and "Sport" settings on the fly.
    - The Sport Roof: A highly popular option was the removable Targa top, which could be unbolted and stored in the hatch for open-air driving.
This original low mileage Supra has been a part of the Duncan Imports Private collection since 2025.
